dirt in my nails

Thunderstorms and pouring rain overnight and into early this morning gave way to sun and blue sky (now mostly covered by thick white clouds) and I was able to get out and put some of the plants in the garden. I tempted fate and planted my tomatoes one in each square. We’ll see how they do. I’ve read differing things: one per 2x2 square, six in an eight-foot row, one per 3x3 square, etc. All but two (the Amish paste tomatoes I bought) are still very small and I’ll be able to prune as needed to shape them. Without going out to look, I think I planted nine Roma, two Amish, one cherry, and two Glamour. I also put in my bean plants (13), brussel sprouts (4), peppers (6), basil (1), chives (4), dill (2), leaf and romaine lettuce (4 each), spinach (8), kale (8), and put two dwarf marigolds in each bed too since they’re good for keeping many varieties of insect pests away. I still have rosemary, mint, carrots, onions, radish, cucumber, squash, zucchini, and blueberries to plant along with whatever else I’ve forgotten.

B’s down for a late nap (time got away from me outside) so tonight’s supper will be a simple one - Baked Southwestern Tilapia with Lemon Herb Quinoa and steamed asparagus. I made this for S a week or so ago and we both loved it; neither one of us had ever had quinoa before. This quinoa recipe is light and goes perfectly with the spicy-ish flavour of the fish. And I love the spice mixture for the fish so much that I plan to make up enough to put in one of my spice jars for future use.

Only two days of holidays left and calling for thunderstorms later today, tomorrow, and Sunday as well. That’s what the forecast has been for nearly my entire nine days off. Booooo!! I’ll be back to work Monday night but I can live with that since I do Tuesday night too and then am off for three more days until the weekend.
