Funny that I read this, 3 months ago I decided to put myself on a budget and really understand what I spent money on and plan for what I would spend money on.  Because I have a savings goal, everymonth is very tight so that I can MEET my savings goal.  In months where a surprise comes up, it means I am behind budget for savings, which I need to grow for home improvements.
Anyway, I liked your post and will take a look through some of your others.
